A number of Allied Health Services are provided at the Griffith Aboriginal Medical Service as follows:​

  • Counselling Services

​

Counselling services are available 5 days per week

​​

How to book an appointment:

​

- Book an appointment with a GP requesting a "Mental Health Plan"

​

- After the Mental Health Plan" is complete, a referral is sent to the counsellor who will contact you for an appointment.

​

- Our Counsellor can provide support, advice and guidance to people who are experiencing personal issues or crisis

​

- All sessions are kept strictly confidential and will not be released without consent, unless there is a violation of codes of abuse, harm to self and others. ​

​

​

  • Dietitian

​

Ellie is our Dietitian at the AMS and is available Monday to Thursday.

 

Ellie can help with all aspects of diet and nutrition but specialises in weight management, chronic disease (diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol etc) and food intolerances.  

​

You may be eligible for bulk-billed appointments with Ellie if you have a referral through a GP Management Plan (EPC) or Aboriginal health check (715). Otherwise there is a cost of $80 for an initial appointment and $50 for follow-up appointments. Ellie is also able to see clients with approved NDIS funding.

  • Speech Pathology

​

We currently offer the services of a Speech Therapist and a Speech Therapy Assistant.

 

Our Speech Pathologist diagnoses and treats communication disorders. They work with people of all ages in the areas of:

  • Speech

  • Language

  • Voice

  • Augmentative and Alternative

  • Communication (AAC)

  • Swallowing and feeding

  • Stuttering and fluency

  • Cognitive and social communication

To make an appointment with our Speech Pathologist you will need an initial GP appointment followed by a second appointment to create a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP). A current Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health check is also needed, if eligible.

  • Occupational Therapist (OT)

 

We currently offer the services of a Paediatric Occupational Therapist.

​

Our Occupational Therapist helps children develop the skills they need to participate in everyday activities and reach their full potential. She will work with children who have various challenges impacting their ability to perform tasks related to self-care, play, school, and social interactions.​

​

To make an appointment with our OT you will need an initial GP appointment followed by a second appointment to create a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP). A current Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health check is also needed, if eligible.

  • Diabetes Educator

 

We currently offer the services of a Diabetes Educator who works on Mondays.

​

The Diabetes Educator can see anybody that has type 1, type 2 diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance.  She provides education on all aspects of diabetes including what diabetes is, how to manage diabetes, food choices for somebody with diabetes,  blood glucose monitoring and providing a monitor is needed, diabetes medication actions, commencing on insulin therapy, complications of diabetes and screening for complications of diabetes.​

To make an appointment you will need an initial GP appointment followed by a second appointment to create a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan (GPCCMP). A current Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health check is also needed, if eligible otherwise there is an out of pocket fee.
