WELCOME

Welcome to the Griffith Aboriginal Medical Service (AMS) website. Please feel free to search our site for information regarding our services and how we are striving to be a welcoming, community focused organisation delivering culturally appropriate services and programs aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of the Aboriginal community.

Our Clients
Under contractual arrangements with the Commonwealth and State governments this Aboriginal Medical Service receives funding to provide health services to members of the Aboriginal community as a matter of priority. Whilst circumstances may enable the provision of services to non-Aboriginal people, due to funding conditions and limited resources, this organisation reserves the right to decline services to non-Aboriginal people. Conversely, subject to the provisions of Section 21 of the Anti Discrimination Act (1977) that enables Aboriginal people ‘access to services or opportunities to meet their special needs’, this organisation reserves the right to request proof of Aboriginality for people seeking access to such services.

Appointments
Please phone 02 6962 0000 for an appointment. Longer consultation times are available, so please ask our receptionist if you require some extra time when booking your appointment. Transport is also available and should be booked at the time of making your appointment. There are appointments reserved each day for urgent or unscheduled appointments. Please check with reception.

Fees and Billing Arrangements
The Griffith AMS is a Bulk Billing Practice and no fee is charged to our clients for their consultation. Please bring your current Medicare Card and Health Care Card. If you don’t have a Medicare Card, we can help you get one. However, in the case of Workers Compensation Claims - accounts will be sent out to the relevant insurer or employer.

Management of Your Personal Health Information
Your medical record is confidential. It is the policy of our service to maintain security of personal health information at all times and to ensure that this information is only made available to authorised members of staff and other relevant health providers with your consent.

Your Rights
If you have a problem, we would like to hear about it. Please feel free to talk to your GP, our Practice Nurse or Management. We take your concerns, suggestions and complaints very seriously. However, if you wish to take a matter further and feel that you need to discuss the matter outside of our service, there are several options available. These include the Medical Registration Board, AMA or Health Care Complaints Commission (address below).
